Folding Shower Chair Factory: Folded Thickness, Color Runs, FBA Packing

If you are looking for a folding shower chair factory, ask one question first: how many centimeters thick is the chair once folded?

Two chairs both labeled folding shower chair open to the same 45 cm wide seat and 55 cm high frame. The difference shows after folding — some stack to 16 cm thick, some to 12 cm. That 4 cm gap means a container holds 25% less cargo, and ocean freight per chair differs by a few RMB. Cost competition in folding shower chairs is not on the production line; it is in the design of the folding mechanism.

1. What the Step From 16 cm to 12 cm Folded Thickness Involves

Shower chairs usually fold on an X-shaped cross frame, with the two side frames stacking together. A typical folded thickness is 16 cm because each side frame takes 8 cm: 25 mm × 2 tubes stacked, plus plastic fitting thickness, plus seat thickness. Pressing down to 12 cm means shaving every element.

First: thinner tube walls, with load capacity recalculated. The load standard for a shower chair is 150 kg, so wall thickness cannot be traded away for a smaller fold. A 1.2 mm stainless steel wall is stronger than a 2.0 mm aluminum alloy wall, and the tube diameter can be 2 mm smaller — across two stacked tubes that saves 4 mm of thickness.

Second: a thinner seat material that does not deform. A standard seat uses 5 mm PE board; switching to 3 mm HDPE board gives the same strength and saves 2 mm. The raised pattern molded into the non-slip surface adds rigidity on its own, so seat thickness can come down another 1 mm.

Third: clearance in the folding pivots. A standard pivot has 1 mm of assembly clearance, and two pairs of pivots add 2 mm of dead thickness. CNC-machined pivots hold clearance to 0.3 mm, saving 1.4 mm across two pairs.

Together the three steps bring thickness from 16 mm to under 12 mm. All three depend on the same preconditions: tube machining accuracy, injection mold precision, and consistent assembly. Miss any one of them and folded thickness is not controllable.

2. In-House Plastic Parts: Why Seven Colors at 50 Units Each Is Possible

On a folding shower chair, the plastic parts — armrests, backrest clips, foot pads — set the product tone through color. White reads too much like a hospital room, blue and gray like a public bathhouse, beige and light gray like home furniture. With the right color, a shower chair moves from medical device to bathroom furniture.

But more colors means purging the barrel between injection runs. At an outside molding shop, a color change means at least two hours of downtime and RMB 300 to 500 in purge cost. That is why outside shops set a minimum of 500 units per color — below that the run does not pay.

When molding is in-house, a color change is an internal scheduling matter with no outside lead time and no purge fee. 50 to 100 units per color is workable, and seven colors at 700 units can run in one pass. Listing seven colors gives buyers seven options on one product, and conversion tends to run higher than with a single color. On a cross-border platform, that difference shows up in the data after a period of selling.

In-house plastic parts carry another quiet advantage: fast color changes. After selling for a while you may find gray moves well and blue does not, so you increase gray and cut blue. With in-house molding the line can be adjusted the same day. With an outside shop you wait for its schedule — two weeks lost round trip.

3. FBA Packaging and the Non-Slip Foot Pads

A folded shower chair packs in a carton of roughly 50 × 45 × 13 cm. Volumetric weight is about 5.85 kg, while actual weight may be only 3 kg. FBA bills at 5.85 kg.

Can it shrink further? The 45 cm width is set by the seat and is hard to reduce, but if the armrests are made removable they can be packed separately. With armrests off, carton height drops from 13 cm to 10 cm and volumetric weight falls from 5.85 kg to 4.5 kg. That saves roughly 20% on freight per unit. The added structure for removable armrests costs about RMB 2 to 3 per chair, but a year of freight savings covers several molds.

The grip of the foot pads feeds straight into return rates. A shower chair sits on a wet, slippery bathroom floor, and TPR foot pads grip better than standard rubber at somewhat higher cost. On wet tile, TPR pads show roughly 30% higher friction than standard rubber, so the chair does not slide when a user sits down. Poor grip brings a worse experience and higher returns — a cost far larger than the material price difference.
